"Bikinis and Tiaras: Quinceaneras" Vendela Vida
Vida wrote a story all about Quinceaneras. A Quinceanera is a hispanic tradition for when a girl becomes a woman. This occurs at the age of 15. Quinceaneras are celebrated differently from each family making each Quinceanera creative and original in the parties own way. Vida shows us how although there may only be one tradition, there are many different ways to celebrate this tradition.

Norms: Individual Vs. Society-Versus
Loud Music
When I first got my license, I was so excited. I could drive myself where I wanted, drive my friends, and feel older. My favorite part of driving myself, was listening to loud music. Music in the car made me content. Driving without music is impossible. I began listening to the radio, but I hated the commercial brakes. So I began listening to my Ipod: varying from T-pain and Kanye West, to The Afters and Aviation. I couldn’t and still to this day can’t listen to the music without the volume being all the way up. I love music. Music is perfect. Music is great for all times. When I am sad, I listen to songs that help me get over my sadness. When I’m excited, I listen to Top 40 songs and songs I love. There is a song, for each mood and condition I may be in. When I listen to loud music, people look at me and be like he thinks he’s cool, or look at that fag. These people judge me for they have nothing better to do. The reason I listen to music so loudly is because it entertains me, and makes me happy. As long as I am content, and enjoy what I am doing, I don’t care what others think.

Artist Statement
Technology, Media, Pop Culture- All significant keys, which make the theme of my video. My video depicts the relationship between Technology, Media, and Pop Culture. My video, “Technologies Rain on Man”, expresses how technology corrupts individual’s lives, shown through the media, and with the audio of pop culture.
I was inspired to create my video when we watched the previous students Avant-Garde videos. I saw other students’ creativity and ideas expressed through their ideas. They inspired me to come up with new ideas and inspirations for my video. I thought of how technology revolved in my life and I noticed that it harms me. For this reason, I chose the topic of my video. My video is Avant-Garde. The reason is my ideas were original, and no other individual created their video off the same topic. No other person used the same effects as me. No other individual took their knowledge of songs, and put together a mix of ten songs and made them fluid and express a deeper meaning.
Technology harms many individuals’ lives in today’s society. I showed this by focusing on technology in the beginning, and taking it away mid way through the video. I showed media as the source of showing how technology affects society. I used pop culture to include meaning and to help my audience understand the meaning of my video. I used songs from my library that are considered pop culture in today’s society. Each song had a different meaning in its own little way, yet they all connected to one another. The connection I showed explained how technology revolves around people’s lives and how it harms their lives.
I chose the footage I did for I felt it represented my ideas visually the best. All my clips looked different, yet with the audio, they all were connected to one another and related to one another. I also added some effects to some of my clips to make them more important, and to express my creativity. The clips also varied in length. Some clips were shorter, others were longer. This technique gave my video a sense of differentiation, and an Avant-Garde feel.
My video will show my audience technology and its flaws. My video will express to others how technology, media, and pop culture relate to one another. I achieved in making this video constructing and Avant-Garde video. I also accomplished creating my first video, and I learned many techniques for future videos. Most importantly, I accomplished showing my audience my feel on the topic and how my life relates to the topic.

"My Brown Eyes" Alexander Amador
Amador is a latina who was raised n the gang. She grew up in LA and faced all the challenges presented to her. She was involved in a gang for she knew no better. She saw a gang as a family. Many kids in Los Angeles had a hard time growing up with their families gone, so they turned to gangs. Amador opens our eyes to a new perspective of gangs and not just how they fight, but how they are more than violent, gangs are a family.
"Curve" Alison Smith
This story Smith writes is very emotional. This story portrays a high school girl who feels she is to skinny. This girl is the skinniest out of all her friends. Most of her friends are constantly complaining about their weight and how they are overweight, and when they complain, this girl complains about her weight as well. The only thing is her friends tell her she's skinny and fine. This girl is continuously put down and this issue is very emotional.

"Sleeves" Amy Hunt
Hunt is a teenage girl who writes a story regarding herself and how she is overweight. She pities herself and states how she doesn't have a lot of friends due to her weight, and doesn't get seen as a human being to many people because she is overweight. Hunt feels as she is a ghost in her school, and is judged by those who do notice her. This story shows us a norm in today's society and helped me for my group video.
"The Border" Cindy Morand
Morand is a girl who has evolved form one life style to another. She has adapted to a new way of living, and has fought through the all the struggles and overcame each obstacle which have been presented to her in her life. Morand fought through poverty, living life merely eating one meal a day. Fighting through racism being judged by her Mexican heritage. Morand is a great individual and a very inspirational individual.
